“Gotcha Day” is the highly anticipated pick-up day when our pups go to their forever homes. It’s such an exciting day, so we make sure it’s very special for each puppy and their new family. Once a puppy is reserved, a pick-up day is scheduled and the planning begins! Throughout the weeks leading up to “Gotcha Day”, I make sure to send weekly photos to each family to keep them updated on their puppy’s progress, and also post updates here on our website.
How we prepare for “Gotcha Day”:
- Puppy gets checked out by our veterinarian
- Puppy gets bathed, groomed, nails clipped
- Puppy gets his/her bandana (collar color) & takes “Gotcha Day” photos
- Puppy picks out his/her own toy to take home
- Puppy Goodie Bag is prepared: canvas tote bag, puppy blanket, bag of treats, teething treats, can food cover, poop bags, puppy pads, new toy
- Puppy Food 8lb. bag & 3 Cans for first few days home
- Puppy Folder is prepared: adoption contract, FL Health Certificate, Embark Breed Certificates & Health Summaries (Ziggy & Darling), Grooming Info, Puppy Care Info, Helpful Checklists

Once the family arrives, we meet with them in our front yard (weather permitting) for introductions and some videos/photos. We go over the Puppy Folder, sign the contract, finalize adoption fee payments, and answer any additional questions. We take a family photo with their new puppy, and we say our farewells. It’s always bittersweet for me since I definitely get attached to each one of the puppies, but the joy in the family’s faces always fills my heart and makes all of this so worth it! Plus, we strongly encourage all our puppy families to stay connected with us via social media, and we are here for them for the lifetime of their furbaby.
